2018 STAR Student and Teacher - Clay Wells & Dorinda Cox

Clay Wells received the STAR student award for the 2017-2018 senior class and also won the System Award.  He will now move on to compete on the District level.  To attain the STAR recognition, the student must have the highest score on a single test date for a three-part SAT and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of their graduating class based on GPA. The student then selects the teacher he or she feels has been the most instrumental in their academic achievement.  Clay chose Mrs. Dorinda Cox as his STAR teacher. Congratulations Clay and Dorinda, we are so proud of you!

Josh Carnes received the STAR student award for the 2014-2015 senior class. To attain the STAR recognition, the student must have the highest score on a single test date for a three-part SAT and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of their graduating class based on GPA. The student then selects the teacher he or she feels has been the most instrumental in their academic achievement. Josh chose Mr. Richard Cox as his STAR teacher. Josh will be attending Georgia Southern University in the fall and will be majoring in mechanical engineering.

McQuaid & Bryant - STAR Student & Teacher

GCA's 2013 Star Student, Bryce McQuaid and STAR teacher, Melissa Bryant were recognized at the Chamber's monthly breakfast meeting this morning at the Kirbo Center.

Smith & Sloan - 2012 STAR Student & Teacher

Congratulations to Abbey Smith for being selected as the 2012 GCA STAR Student and to Mrs. Beth Sloan or being selected as her STAR Teacher.  Abbey is the daughter of Michael and Dena Smith.  Abbey is a member of the cheerleading team, compeition cheer squad, cross-country team, and Chaos dance team.  She has served on the basketball team, "Grace Goes Green", and yearbook staff.  She is a graduate of the Chamber's Youth Leadership program and currently serves on the Steering Committee, she is the senior vice president, member of the National Honor Society and was recently crowned GCA's homecoming queen.  Abbey plans to attend either the University or Georgia or Mississippi State.

Young & Bennet - 2011 STAR Student & Teacher

Congratulations to Tad Young for being selected as the 2011 GCA STAR Student and to Mrs. Kathy Bennett for being selected as his STAR Teacher. Tad is the son of Karl and Faye Young. Tad is a member of the National Honor Society, he is an Eagle Scout and was recently named Daughter of the American Revolution's Good Citizen Award recipient. Young wants to complete an associate's degree at Bainbridge College and then transfer to Berry College or Georgia Southern University to pursue a chemical or physical science degree and eventually become an engineer.

Soden & Bennett Named STARs

Congratulations to Elisabeth Soden for being selected as the 2010 GCA STAR Student and to Mrs. Kathy Bennett for being selected as her STAR Teacher.
Elisabeth is the daughter of Randy and Elisa Soden. She is very active at GCA as Captain of the Lady Cougars Basketball team, Editor of the GCA Yearbook, Senior Class Homecoming Court Rep., member of the National Honor Society, graduate of the Bainbridge-Decatur County Chamber of Commerce Youth Leadership Program, recipient of the Presidential Award of Excellence and member of Grace Goes Green. Congratulations!!
