Guidance Counselor Corner: Deadlines and Test

The senior students were given a folder with local and regional scholarship applications/due dates. For the past several years, GCA students have won many of these scholarships. Please note the deadlines and encourage your senior to apply for these!

All sophomore and junior students interested in taking college courses next year need to register for the ACT, SAT, or the Next Generation Accuplacer.

* The ACT registration deadline is March 8th (April 13th test).
* The SAT registration late deadline is Feb. 27th (March 9th test).
* The next Generation Accuplacer can be taken on the campus of ABAC-Bainbridge.
Visit http://www.abac.edu/academics/academicsupport/placement to schedule an appointment for testing. It is recommended they practice before taking the test. For practice, google "Next Generation Practice Test."

Vince Dooley Announces Recipients

Carly Godwin, Sam McRae, and Mark Loeffler have been named the Vincent J. Dooley Award winners for Grace Christian Academy and Bainbridge High School. Sam McRae has been selected as one of the ten finalists (from across the state of Georgia) for the Vincent J. Dooley Scholarship .
The scholarship winner will be announced on May 12th at the 11th Annual Dooley Awards luncheon held at the College Football Hall of Fame.
The Vincent J. Dooley Awards and Scholarships are presented annually by Athletes for a Better World and the Georgia High School Association. Each year, every high school in Georgia is invited to select one male and one female senior athlete to receive the Vincent J. Dooley Award .
The award recipients are chosen for their distinguished individual character, outstanding teamwork, and citizenship. The recipients of the Dooley Awards in every high school are eligible to become candidates for the Vincent J. Dooley Scholarship – a four year, $1,000 per year, college scholarship for one male and one female athlete, plus a one-time $500 donation to the selected charity of each of the two scholarship recipients.
The award recipients complete an online process and are reviewed by a selection committee, who choose 10 boys and 10 girls as finalists for the Dooley Scholarship.
