The Fourth grade class visited the Thronateeska Heritage Center on March 3rd. The Thronateeska Heritage Center is located in Albany, GA. This Center inspires wonder and stimulates exploration of science and south Georgia history by providing a learning experience through an interactive science center and museum.
The students were first toured through the History Museum. It was here the students learned the story of Albany and Southwest Georgia. They learned about the people that helped to build and develop this area. They were introduced to information from the Creek Indians to the bustling railroad. The exhibits in this section of the Thronateeska Heritage Center gave the students a reflection of who we were and who we are today. Our second tour was of the Wetherbee Planetarium. The students were able to study the wonders of space under the under the beautiful full dome. This exhibit was entitled “Oasis in Space”. The students and adults alike were fascinated by this state-of-the exhibit. The third and final exhibit was the Science Museum. It was here the students had hands on and visually engaging exhibits in geology, archeology, and climatology. Each child was given and opportunity to see themselves on television. This of course was a thrilling experience.
The field trip ended with a delightful lunch at a local restaurant in Albany and enough time for the children to play on the playground equipment at Turtle Pond.
