EPIC Adventure Coming Soon!!

Boosterthon's EPIC Adventure will be coming to GCA April 18th - 27th.   This will be the 4th year we have hosted the Boosterthon Fun Run. The goal of the Boosterthon Fun Run is to raise funds while teaching our kids about the importance of Fitness, Leadership, and Character.

The Boosterthon Fun Run is a nine-day program that will kick off on Wednesday, April 18th @ 2:00 p.m. in the gym.  This year's character theme is "EPIC Adventure" and it's all about Teamwork!  Our students will be building character by learning the four secrets to good teams:  Encourage, Play, Invite, and Celebrate.

NEEDS:  We need room moms that will be willing to help our teachers create a "Team" name, design a team poster, encourage participation, and come enjoy the kick-off and run!  If you are interested please email Cile at cwarr@gcacougars.org.

Freedom Dive - March 29th& 30th

Freedom Dive 2012 is coming soon!!   Mark your calendars for March 29th & 30th.   Freedom Dive has always been an exciting event for our middle and high school students and this year will be no different.  "Overcome" is the theme and great speakers and music have been lined up for this wonderful praise event!  To offset the cost, we are asking each student to bring $10 by March 27th.  This donation does include a cool t-shirt to remember the event.

Winburn Takes 1st in Performing Arts

Congratulations to Mattie Winburn, 6th grade, for winning 1st place in the Performing Arts General category at the 4-H District Cloverleaf Project Achievement competition held on Saturday, March 17th in Americus, GA.

Cougar Baseball Takes a Win

 The GCA Cougars defeated Gateway Academy of Bonifay, Fla., by the score of 13-7 on Saturday, March 17, in Bonifay. 

Brent Warr led the offense with three hits. Austin McQuaid was also on base three times with walks, while Michael Mills and Anderson Bailey had two hits each.  Coach Ken Bailey said the defense was solid, supporting strong pitching performances from Anderson Bailey, Michael Mills, and Dalton Boyd.




6th Grade Takes Trip to St. Augustine, FL

Trip week for the 6th grade students included an awesome visit to St. Augustine, FL. 

Activities they enjoyed included:  St. Augustine Alligator Farm; the St. Augustine Lighthouse; tours of The Castillo De San Marcos, the oldest Wooden School, the oldest House, Flagler Memorial Church, Spanish Military Hospital, Fountain of Youth, Mission of Nombre de Dios, Spanish Quarter, Fort Matanzas and the St. Augustine Amphitheater.

Swamps & Savannah!

 







The 7th & 8th grade students enjoyed a wonderful trip to the Okefenokee Swamp & Historic Savannah during their Trip Week.  They spent time at the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge enjoying a boat tour, exhibits, Chesser Island Homestead and the Swampwalk.  In Savannah they took a Trolley Tour of Historic Savannah, enjoyed a Riverboat Cruise, and the Legends of Savannah Night Tour.  They had an opportunity to visit Fort Jackson where the students participated in Civil War training, they ate at the Whistle Stop Cafe, visited the Tybee Island Lighthouse, and enjoyed a tour Fort Pulaski.  Many thanks to Mrs. Harris and Mrs. Henderson for organizing this great trip!

High School Visit to the Georgia Capitol

GCA High School students enjoyed a two day visit to Atlanta during Trip Week.   They spent their first afternoon at the Georgia Capitol, enjoyed some shopping and dinner at Discovery Mills and wrapped-up their trip at Medieval Times on Friday.  Fun was had by all! 



Lady Cougars place 4th in National Tournament

Coach Harrell's Lady Cougars went 2-2 and finished 4th at the National Association of Christian Athletes Basketball Tournament in Dayton, TN.  The national champions were Maryland's Mt. Airy Christian Academy. 

Congratulations to Sophmore Rachel Harrell, for making the All-Tournament team in Division 3.

NJHS Inducts 25

Grace Christian Academy's National Junior Honor Society inducted 25 new members at an Induction Ceremony on March 5, 2011.  NJHS officers performed the Induction Ritual recognizing the candidates for academic, character, and conduct excellence.  Officers for the group include President Shelby Woodrum, Vice President Hannah Holden, Secretary Kaitlin Adams, Treasurer Rhaegan Henderson and Project Chairmen Jack McRae and Brent Warr.  Congratulations to the following new members of GCA's NJHS:  8th Grade - Haley Chandler and Jasmine Jones; 7th Grade - Kaitlyn Holcombe, Tyler Rentz, Nathan Walton, and Hannah Wilde; 6th Grade - Eliza Butler, Morgan Cannon, Braden Dowdy, Jared Duke, Mason Duke, Carly Godwin, Jeremy Greene, Miller Hayes, Drake Law, Sam McRae, Pooja Patel, Breanna Pritchett, Emilee Straughn, Corban Walsingham, Clayton Wells, Mattilyn Winburn, William Womble, Collin Woodrum, and John York.

Cougar Baseball Opens with a Win

The Cougar Baseball team opened their season last Thursday with a win against East Hill Christian School from Pensacola, FL by a 7-3 score.

Anderson Bailey and Dalton Boyd combined to strike out 16 in the victory, while Bo Bailey and Anderson Bailey had two hits apiece to lead the offense.  Brent Warr was on base three times and scored twice.

 "Our hitters showed a good combination of patience and agression, while the defense was solid throughout the game," stated Coach Bailey.
