GCA vs. Maranatha

The girls' varsity won 36-33 last night against Maranatha. Brock Bailey scored 17 to lead the Lady Cougars.

The boys defeated the Patriots 52-39 never trailing in the game. Anthony Henderson scored a game high of 18 points.

The boys and girls are back in action Monday night versus Byne.

GCA Cheerleaders

The GCA Competition Cheerleading squad competed in the Christian Cheerleaders of America Regional Competition in McDonough, GA on November 15. They showcased routines in two divisions, medium varsity non-music and small varsity music. They did an excellent job on both and came away with 1st place trophies in both divisions. The squad includes (picture--front L to R) Perra Harrell, Annabelle Smith, Merrianna Parker, Shellby Woodrum, Abbey Smith; (picture--back L to R) Sydney Harrell, Laura Leigh Andrews, Valerie Nguyen, and Sloane Wiggins.

Grace Basketball

The boys' varsity team traveled today to face the Mavericks of Victory Christian Academy in Sneads, Florida. They return for their next home game on Thursday along with the JV boys and girls' varsity against Maranatha. The JV game starts at 5 p.m.

Update! The boys won yesterday 75-32. Anthony Henderson had a team high of 16 points, followed by Jon Ward with 15. This past weekend Henderson led the Cougars to two wins against Central and Alethia, scoring team highs of 26 and 23. The boys beat Central 61-56 and Alethia 63-53. For the season Henderson is averaging just over 20 points per game.

Thanksgiving Holidays

November 26th-28th are set aside for Thanksgiving Holidays.

1 Chronicles 16 says:

31 Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad;
let them say among the nations, "The LORD reigns!"

32 Let the sea resound, and all that is in it;
let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them!

33 Then the trees of the forest will sing,

Winter Festival-How Can You Help?

Winter Festival is just around the corner, scheduled for Tuesday, December 2nd, from 4:30-8 p.m. How can you help? If you've got raffle tickets, sell them! If you don't, find a student and buy some! We've got some great items this year, everything from a new iMac computer to an antique shotgun. Don't miss out on this chance.

Grace Basketball

There will be a home game tonight against Tallavanna. The Junior Varsity will take the court at 5 p.m., followed by the Boys Varsity at 6:30 p.m.

Update! The JV boys won their game 32-31. The Varsity Boys also won 72-50. Today they are in Panama City playing in a tournament. Their game was at 8 p.m. No reports yet.

GCA Student Second Overall

Kyle Harris, sophomore at GCA, finished second overall with a time of 39:32 this past Saturday in the Bainbridge-Decatur County YMCA Veterans Day Classic.

Others representing GCA in the Veterans Day Classic were Erika Pemberton, GCA pre-school physical education teacher, finishing in 49:20 (it was Erika's first 10K), Grace's history professor and Grace Church youth minister, John Woodrum, finishing with a time of 47:00, sixth-grader Chase Harris (Kyle's younger brother), and first grade teacher Julie Harris (Kyle's mom) finishing in 52:23.

Moms In Touch

Moms In Touch meets each Tuesday morning @ 8:05 a.m. in the Grace Church sanctuary.

GCA Students Attend NYL State Conference

Two of GCA's Georgia Scholars attended the National Youth Leadership State Conference in Atlanta last week. JD Poole and Abbey Smith joined others from across the state in an intense seminar to hone their leadership skills. They join other scholars from Grace who have previously attended: Emily Hiers, Jana Simmons, Taylor McDonald, Christina Greene, and other Grace graduates. These young leaders, nominated by their teachers, gained maturity, depth of character, and new found leadership skills to bring home and share with their school and community. JD wowed with his guitar skills while Abbey shone with her gymnastic routine! GCA is proud of our Georgia Scholars!

Yearbook Staff Selling Personal Ads

The Yearbook staff are selling personal ads for the 2008-2009 yearbook. Order forms are in the office for anyone that would like to purchase one.

Box Tops & Soup Labels

St. Augustine Trip

The 7th & 8th grade U.S. History Class taught by Mrs. Merreann McDonald recently visited St. Augustine, Florida on a quest to see first hand what the first European settlement in America was all about.

22 Students enjoyed this break from the traditional classroom to see, experience, learn, and enjoy this part of our nation that is so rich in American history. During their time in St. Augustine, the students visited many educational and historical sites, as well as a few fun stops along the way.

The first stop on the tour was at the St. Augustine Visitor Information Center where students were greeted by a tour guide who accompanied them for the next couple of days. While at the VIC, students were able to see a building material called “coquina” which was first used to build the National Landmark, Castillo de San Marco. The students then toured many other sites which included: Memorial Presbyterian Church, Flagler College, formerly, The Ponce de Leon Hotel, built by Henry Flagler, Ripley’s Believe It or Not!, St. Augustine Lighthouse, The Oldest House, The Spanish Military Hospital, Castillo de San Marco, Mission of Nombre de Dios, the City Gates, a trolley tour of the city, and an evening walking tour.

The students really embraced this educational opportunity and “soaked” in so much information. They were so thankful for this opportunity.
