GCA Students Explore D.C. During Trip Week

Forty-two students and chaperones from Grace Christian Academy just returned from a five-day educational history trip to Washington, D.C. The trip was a part of GCA’s annual Trip Week and was organized locally by Mrs. Kathy Bennett, a GCA teacher, and coordinated through Christian Discoveries the week of Feb. 28th – March 6th.
The students were able to witness our government in action through a visit to the Capitol Building. They explored themes of personal risk and sacrifice while visiting the World War II, Vietnam, Iwo Jima, and Korean War Memorials.
They were able to experience the history of our founding fathers while visiting Mt. Vernon, Ford’s Theatre, and the Washington and Lincoln Memorials. Students witnessed the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Solder at Arlington National Cemetery and the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts. They visited the Holocaust Museum and met survivor who spent time with the group sharing her experiences in a camp. The kids had a whole day to tour the various Smithsonian Museums. The highlight of the trip was a tour of the ground floor of the White House arranged by Senator Saxby Chambliss. On their trip up, the students enjoyed stops in Williamsburg and Charlottesville, Virginia. Mrs. Bennett praised the students for their respectful absorption throughout the various historical venues on the memorable trip. She noted...."I cannot express my joy at the behavior of the group. Several people from some of the guides to restaurant owners to teachers from other schools remarked on the conduct of our kids. Sometimes we were near unruly groups that made us shine." Thank you parents for allowing your kids this opportunity. I know some of you sacrificed to make this happen. I feel it was truly worth the cost with all we did and the quality of our meals and lodging. Please remember to thank Senator Chambliss for opening the door to the White House for us. We were all amazed and proud! GO GCA!! Kathy Bennet.
